In a sector known for poor gender equality, The Capricornian is proud to share:
- Our senior leadership team is 60% women
- Our Board of Directors is 40% women (vs an industry average of 21%)
- 78% of our total staff are female
In the spirit of International Women’s Day, we’re shining a light on a few of the incredible women who drive positive change within our organisation and community. Among many others, it’s the dedication, resilience, and compassion from women like Maxine Davis, Natalie Ohl and Nicole Constable who make The Capricornian the impactful organisation that we are.
Natalie Ohl, Chief Strategy Officer
Describe your career at The Capricornian:
I started my career at TCL 10 years ago as the Marketing Manager. In this time, I’ve had the opportunity to take on other roles including Products, Projects, IT and Information Security. Oh, and I became a mum to two energetic boys.
What does inclusion mean to you?
Inclusion to me, means equal opportunities for all regardless of diversity. Being valued for the contributions you bring to a group or organisation and in turn, taking responsibility to include and provide opportunity to others.
What are your hopes for women of the future?
I see a future where women continue to be empowered to achieve the things they want to achieve. It can take time and commitment to build the confidence and capability to learn, grow and evolve, but the outcomes are often worth it. My advice is to surround yourself with people and mentors that lift you up, and realise that you might be that person for others as well.
Maxine Davis, Stockland Branch Supervisor
Describe your career at The Capricornian:
I was lucky enough to be chosen to come and work for The Capricornian Ltd on the 29 July 2019. As of this day, I know what it means when you enjoy going to work, and it’s not work at all.
What does inclusion mean to you?
Stockland Branch, and specifically my Manager Lauren Robinson, has shown me what inclusion really means. She leads by example, and I strive every day to assist her in running the branch to provide outstanding customer service. We work for excellence always. We all have “bad days” however when the doors open at 9am, we all smile and try to make the customer experience as outstanding as we can.
What are your hopes for women of the future?
My hope for women of the future is that more assistance be provided for women who suffer from DV. Also, that crimes against children have harsher penalties.
I was very fortunate to be bought up with some very inspirational women. I am one of 4 sisters and our mother bought us up to be strong, independent women. Our maternal grandmother lived with us till she left this world and was my mentor. She always said that in this world you will hear the saying, “everyone should give and take,” she would say this is not correct. It should be, “If everyone gives and no-one takes, this would stop all the issues of today”.
My last wish: a strong woman stands up for herself. A stronger woman stands up for everybody else.
Nicole Constable, Human Resources Manager
Describe your career at The Capricornian:
I joined the TCL family almost 22 years ago in the Loans Administration team. I have done a few different roles over that time before falling into Human Resources and discovering how much I love it!
What does inclusion mean to you?
To me, inclusion is treating all equally and fairly. Being valued for the good you bring to the community, not for fitting a particular mold.
What are your hopes for women of the future?
I hope that women are given the support and the opportunities to do and have it all… doing work they get joy and value from, while balancing family and hobbies. I am lucky, as I already have this!
