For 65 years, The Capricornian has been deeply rooted in our local community. This year, we were thrilled to take our commitment to the next level as the major sponsor of the Rockhampton River Run 10k event. The Rocky River Run is a beloved annual event, and we were so excited to be part of bringing this opportunity to our local community.
This year marked a special milestone as it was the first year that the Rocky River Run has sold out, with over 2,300 people registering to run!
As the major sponsors of the 10k event, our CEO Dale Grounds had the pleasure of firing the start gun for the run and presenting the medals to the race winners.
To add to the excitement, we decided to introduce on-course entertainment for the first time ever, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
Teaming up with Beards and Banter, we set the stage for an electrifying start to each run. Mitch brought the energy with his banging tunes, setting the perfect tone for runners to kickstart their race with a burst of adrenaline. A highlight for us was starting the 10k run to ACDC’s Thunderstruck – now that’s one way to get the legs moving!
And the energy didn’t end there! As runners approached the final stretch, they were greeted by the magical melodies of the Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra (RSO). Led by talented runner and RSO President Michael McCabe, the orchestra delivered a special performance, motivating participants to push through those last few hundred meters with renewed vigor. Sporting co-branded shirts, the band members added a touch of grandeur to the event, creating a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the dedication of our incredible team. Over the weekend, more than 10 Capricornian staff members and their children volunteered their time and energy to ensure the event ran smoothly. From pre-race preparations to cheering on participants and distributing refreshments at the finish line, our team was there every step of the way, embodying The Capricornian’s values to enrich and support our community.
In the lead-up to the event, we also took to social media to build excitement and anticipation. We had some fun with getting our team involved in making videos to pump up participants and let everyone know that we would be there to back them 100% of the way.
As the day came to a close, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude. Being able to contribute to such a fantastic event and witnessing the joy and determination of all the participants was truly inspiring. We are already looking forward to next year’s run and the opportunity to continue supporting our community to achieve their fitness goals, and have fun doing it.
In conclusion, the 2024 Rocky River Run was a resounding success. A success that we are proud to have been part of. See you on the course next year!?
